2019 Collin County SKYWARN Training

The 2019 Collin County SKYWARN training from the National Weather Service will be held January 19th, 2019 at the Conference Center at Collin College in McKinney.


Morning Session: 8:30am – 1130am // Basic SKYWARN training

Afternoon Session: 12:45pm – 4:30pm // Advanced SKYWARN training

What you get

NWS encourages anyone with an interest in public service to join the SKYWARN program. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers, and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, school, churches, and nursing homes or have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter. Training is free and typically lasts about 2 hours. You’ll learn:

  • Basics of thunderstorm development
  • Fundamentals of storm structure
  • Identifying potential severe weather features
  • Information to report
  • How to report information
  • Basic severe weather safety
